The School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) is one of the seven schools at the Nigeria Navy Institute of Technology, Sapele. The school was first established as a computer maintenance unit during the era of Messrs Dornier, who were the technical training partners of the NN at that time.The school started as a Computer Training Center in 2001 to train Undertraining Personnel (UTPs) and order interest staff on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This was to ensure that Staff and trainees are computer literate and able to utilize ICT concepts and tools for effective naval operations.The center was later renamedComputer Engineering School (CES) and commissioned on November 28, 2013.It was further upgraded with a view to running professional and computer programs, with approval and accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Currently, the SCIT hosts two NBTE-approved National Diploma (ND) courses in Computer Science and Computer Engineering technology. It also runs short courses in ICT for staff and personnel of the NN.
Organization of SCIT
The SCIT is headed by a Commanding Officer(CO), who is responsible to the deputy commandant for the administration, training and effective running of the school in accordance with the captain standing order. The CO is assisted by a civilian Head of Department (HOD), who coordinates daily academicprogramme for the school. Our academic and technical staffs possess various academic and professional qualifications, ranging from HND to Masters degrees in various computer disciplines (science, technology, and engineering).
